FAQs on Assisted living in Vancouver

Is assisted living expenses covered by Medicaid or Medicare?

Medicaid is commonly used to cover the costs of care and services received in an assisted living facility but it does not take care of the costs of room and board. With room and board costs in the thousands of dollars every month, states have created programs and waivers that will help off-set the expenses of housing in assisted living facilities.

The costs associated with moving into and living in an assisted living community are not covered by Medicare Insurance. Medicare insurance coverage extends to short-term, prescribed care or medicine by a physician. If moving to an assisted living community is not your decision and is being proposed by your physician, Medicare could take care of many of the costs for a certain amount of time. Medicaid and other state managed programs can financially support people trying to find support.

  • Dining Services and Meal Prep

To benefit from these deductions residents need to be ready to itemize the deductions. Unreimbursed medical expenses must meet or exceed 7.5% of a taxpayers adjusted gross income. Sometimes, housing costs may be 100% deductible in addition to individual care programs being deductible as well.
