COVID-19 Update 3/31/20:
The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted the senior living industry in the Austin region. By order of state authorities, all independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing facilities are severely restricting access to their buildings. As a general guideline, no outside visitors, including families, are allowed inside the buildings. Exceptions are very rare and generally only include end-of-life situations. In addition, all communal dining, and almost all activities, have been prohibited in the name of social distancing. Essentially this means residents of senior living facilities are strongly encouraged to isolate in their apartments. Of course, this means that the ordinary course of business activities, such as new admissions, is increasingly problematic. Tours and assessments are being done over such technologies as FaceTime. Some communities have limited discussions with prospective residents to emergency situations where move-in would happen within two weeks. In some instances, though rare so far, some communities are not accepting new residents at all.
Nevertheless, there remain situations where seniors and their families are still forced to consider senior living options. People still need to move when they are a danger to themselves, when they would be healthier living elsewhere than their current situation, or where caregiving issues are insurmountable. In those situations, Texas Senior Living Locators remains the best options for families looking for long-term care. In the current environment, I am no longer able to give personal tours of facilities, but I remain in daily contact with a wide variety of providers in the senior living community. Please feel free to share my contact information with anyone whose situation might benefit from my services.
