New Haven of Kyle Hosts Dementia Caregiver Support Group
April 4 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Kyle, TX – In Texas alone, roughly 1.3 million caregivers provide an average of 20 hours a week of unpaid care for friends and loved ones. Caregiving is a demanding undertaking and results in high levels of stress.
Support groups provide an avenue for caregivers to share common experiences in a safe environment and learn from others. Support groups are a great place to discover creative solutions for issues particular to caring for someone with memory loss. They help the caregiver feel more in control and are a great resource for disease and caregiving information. Luckily, here in Kyle, there is a support group where caregivers of a person with dementia can gather to share their experiences in a safe, supportive environment.
“These groups educate and inform participants about dementia and help caregivers develop methods and skills to solve problems,” says Christian Wells, President of the Alzheimer’s Texas. “They encourage caregivers to maintain their own personal, physical and emotional health as well as providing peer guidance on how to care for the person with dementia.”
Meetings will be held by Tawana Bray at New Haven in Kyle, TX where participants will be offered a few light reading materials in relation to a common topic from a previous meeting then proceed to open floor discussion in a private setting. Meetings last about an hour and there is no charge to attend.
